Bethany Plummer is one of our more recent leavers, having finished her A Levels in 2014.
She started at the college in 2012, doing four subjects (Maths, Biology, Chemistry and Geography) at AS Level, before dropping Maths, to concentrate on the remaining three subjects.
Bethany proved to be a star student, achieving 3 A grades in Chemistry, Biology and Geography as well as the B grade in AS Level Maths.
Chemistry Sparks and Play Dough………..
Bethany says, that she only has positive memories from her time at the college, enjoying every lesson that was taught, with much laughter taking place.
Now, you may think that Play-doh is child’s play but, Bethany and her fellow students would tell you differently, as they found it a very useful hands on tool in their Geography lessons!
They say that sparks fly, well, Bethany says the sparks were bubbling in her Chemistry lessons!
The best teachers!
Not the first time it has been said…….. but in Bethany’s own words.
The teachers are all so passionate – they are so keen for you to do well and succeed. Never have I been in a place where the teachers and lecturers would go above and beyond to help you.
Rose, in Biology and Jodie, in Geography are the best teachers I’ve ever had – they are very intelligent people, and what they don’t know about their subject isn’t worth knowing.
What a testament and tribute to those individuals concerned!
A Doctor in the making………….
After leaving City College, Bethany didn’t go too far for the next stage of her education, little more than a stone’s throw from the college in fact!
She started Med School at the UEA in September 2014, now almost at the end of her second year, we are delighted to hear that she is loving it.
Bethany told us
It’s definitely an intense course, they work us hard but, the great thing about the course is spending 3 months a year in a hospital setting, and a month on GP placement, learning first hand about different specialities and gaining the skills to become a good doctor.
Sounds like studying medicine is living up to Bethany’s dreams, we wonder, if she can remember two years ago telling us?
“I’ve got a place at the University of East Anglia to study Medicine, which has always been a dream of mine. I quite like the idea of specialising in emergency medicine because, I like jobs that are different every day – I don’t want to get bored!”
Non stop teaching and learning……….
In Bethany’s holidays not one, to take on a bit of light relief, she’s taken on the position of a children’s holiday camp/activities club Manager. She says that not only is this great fun but it’s also a massive responsibility!
Sounds like it, as she has also gained qualifications to teach children how to:
- Ride Quad-bikes
- Drive Electric Karts and Go-Karts
- Shoot Archery
We can’t help but wonder, if it was anything to do with the Play-doh, that encouraged Bethany to do something a bit different to the norm and get involved with child’s play?
Whatever, she says the kids love it!
Geography is still a passion!
Bethany hasn’t lost, or forgotten her love of Geography. She spent an amazing month, last summer travelling solo around South East Asia.
She says it was a crazy month but absolutely amazing! The pictures certainly look like she had a memorable time.
Bethany definitely has the travel bug, and hopes to do her elective 4th year, for the summer, in Australia on the emergency helicopters.
Well we certainly hope that she continues to fulfil her dreams and look forward to hearing about her continuing journey in the years to come.
