Cassandra Townsend first entered City College Norwich in floods of tears on AS results day, thinking that her life was over after failing her exams. However, she left feeling enlightened after having spoken to a staff member and realising that, in fact, she had several options to choose from with regards to her future.
Andy Reeve studied an Access to Higher Education course in Art and Design at City College Norwich 2007-2009. Here, in his own words, Andy shares his story of how City College Norwich offered him an opportunity to achieve his ambitions which resulted in him going to university and being awarded the Vernon Crowther Prize for Painting!
Stuart Mackay came to City College Norwich in 1976 to complete an OND in Mechanical Engineering. His story spans 40 years, he’s been a high achiever, leading operations in Engineering world wide and has come full circle back to inspire future generations of engineers!
Starting at college, Rebecca Perry was just 16 years old and initially came to undertake her A Levels. She had an aptitude for education and certainly a passion which still remains with her today. She liked it so much at college that despite some brief interludes with other education providers and employers she hasn’t been able to leave us and is now a very successful Planning and Performance Programme Manager at the college.
City College Norwich’s hairdressing course leader, Steve Bacon, has worked at City College Norwich for 29 years. He even studied hairdressing at the college in 1977! Steve tells us his story about his hairdressing and education career and how the
Bethany Plummer studied hard, gaining 3 A’s in her A Levels at City College Norwich before progressing onto UEA Med School. Currently, studying to become a Dr. she also found time for other learning, gaining qualifications to teach kids to ride Quad bikes and Go Karts amongst other things. She is also flying high with something of a travel bug!
Alex came to City College Norwich in 2009 from Denmark to undertake , so not only a total change in education system but a different language to be taught in! Alex rose to the occasion and proved he was up to the challenge, achieving A’s & A*’s! Now a Master of Physics he is sure to emerge as a shining light in the Science World!
Former A Level student Josée Tisdale has had quite a journey with us, from being one of the first City Academy Norwich students to attend the college, representing students as Further Education officer, achieving her A Levels and going on to a degree in Special Educational Needs at the University of St Mark and St John Plymouth (‘Marjon’) – before coming back to the college as a CSS.

Amy Fisher completed an apprenticeship in hairdressing at City College Norwich in 2012. With support from her outstanding teachers, Amy went on to achieve great success joining the Fellowship of British Hairdressing. She also gives her time back to the college, coming in to give demonstrations for creative hair dressing and advanced colour work to today’s students.
