Wendy Williams was at City College Norwich from 1977-1989, first as a student studying OND Hotel Management and then as a member of staff, as cook in the F Block. Wendy says about her time at City College:
“I loved F Block, it was always jam packed with people on both floors! However there was always more going on downstairs.
I obviously loved it so much I then went on to work there as a cook, cooking for both day and resident students in Southwell Lodge. We worked weekends getting to know the live-in students very well.
I loved my time as a student and working there was the best job I ever had, and so much fun too! I am so glad I went there. After leaving the college, I went on to be a Catering Section Manager at John Lewis for 10 years.
I now work part-time as a cook at a day centre for the elderly.”
Dan Savage was at City College Norwich from 1998-2001, studying Hospitality and Catering.
In reference to his memories of CCN, Dan says he always remembers the college inspiring him to progress and push himself harder in order to learn as much as possible. Dan says about his lecturers:
“I had a lecturer at City College called Paul Chappel, without his support and encouragement I may not have made the decision and changes that I did.”
Heading up his career……
Since leaving the college, Dan has progressed as a chef, working his way up to a head chef position at the age of 25!
“I worked hard and was awarded two rosettes in my first head chef position. I then went on to be head chef in another two establishments, where I was awarded another two rosettes in each respectively.”
During his career, Dan has also entered the TV show ‘Masterchef: The Professionals’ where he reached the quarter finals!
These days, Dan is the Executive Head Chef at Colney Training Centre, working for Norwich City Football Club.
Andy Snowling undertood his NVQ Hospitality and Catering levels 2 & 3 at City College Norwich from 2002-2003.
Andy says he remembers Steve Thorpe & Tom Taylor being great lecturers. We’re pleased to say that Steve Thorpe still works at City College as Head of School/Assistant Principal!
Andy goes on to say:
“The facilities were good then and I know they are always improving in order to give the next generation of cooks the best equipment to learn with and valuable knowledge to take into the work place.”
Andy worked for Animal Inns Ltd after leaving City College, becoming Executive Chef before progressing to Operations Manager whereby he managed four pubs for three years.
He now runs the Buckinghamshire Arms near Aylsham.
