Nadine Gage started at City College Norwich in 2012 originally when she studied Health and Social Care.
A nervous start……
In Nadine’s own words:
“I can remember starting college in 2012 as a very nervous individual with high anxiety.
I managed to settle in well to childcare level one and after having fantastic support from the Wellbeing Team I overcame most of my anxiety.
This gave me the courage to apply for Health and Social Care level two. I excelled on this course but still had a fear of presentations. After completing this course I then went on to a two year Health and Social Care level three course.
This is when I started work experience at CCN in supported learning. I loved it and knew I wanted to do this as a future career.
On my second year of level 3, I not only got a job in supported learning alongside my course, I also set up a peer mentoring project with the excellent help of Jock Downie.
The project helped me overcome my fear of presentations. The happiest memory for me was when I felt proud of myself, a feeling I had never felt before, and a feeling City College helped me achieve.
After finishing my course I got my certificates from level three achieving triple distinction*!
I have also run 3 CPD days alongside my CV. I am now still working in supported learning as a CSS as well as managing the peer mentoring project alongside Jock which is now well underway.”
